A few weeks back, a group of promising second year Design students visited Paramount’s Cardiff HQ as part of our on-going partnership with the University of South Wales. The mentoring scheme aims to support and provide key takeaways for budding students, soon to enter the design industry in South Wales and beyond.

Following a tour of our furniture showroom, the annual trip gives students the chance to show-off and present their creative ideas to our Design Manager, Jon, who has supported the scheme with Paramount for many years.

This year the project included a feasibility report for the iconic Percy building, which has dominated Cardiff’s city centre skyline for over 150 years; each student was asked to create a six-storey space that brought together the community and promoted a sense of overall well-being through the design theme.

The all-day event also gave the students an opportunity to get hands-on experience of pitching, whilst gaining valuable feedback and advise from Jon’s wealth of industry knowledge and design know-how.

Commenting on the event, Jon Foster said: “It’s always a privilege to speak with creative students and witness upcoming talent in the design industry of South Wales. It was a great day all round, and I’ve no doubt these rising stars will have promising careers ahead of them.”

A couple of years ago, we supported Caroline Rook through this mentorship scheme. Today, Caroline is a core part of our design team, in her new role as Student Designer, working on key design projects for the likes of Cardiff Bus, Brewin Dolphin and Menzies – read more here.

Thank you to the University of South Wales – we wish the students all the best with the rest of the term, and can’t wait to see them again for the next stage of their project!
