The Brief

Reimagine a workspace to create a more inclusive environment, designed to enable modern, collaborative working practices.

The Solution

With 16 offices in the UK and over 15,000 people employed globally, Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today’s built environment.

Recently ranked within the top 10 Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work, 2020 marked 50 years for Arup in Wales.

Home to over 400 people, the aim of the refurbishment of their Cardiff Bay office was to provide an inclusive environment for staff, collaborators and clients to come together and focus on future projects effectively. We were responsible for the primary and secondary fit out to all four floors, as well as the furniture package and WC refurbishment.

To the ground floor, the entrance area provides a welcoming meet and greet area. Whilst on the upper floors, the space has been designed to promote agile working through careful furniture selection that allows employees to tailor the space to their working needs. This includes touchdown desking, soft seating areas and a variety of adjustable workstations with enabling technologies.

On the 2nd floor a modern library section has been developed using partitioning to create a sense of transparency and openness. This area includes quiet zones and individual focus areas to improve concentration. This floor also houses a large canteen and an enclosed, safe space with mental welfare and mindfulness at the forefront of its new look and feel.

The workplace was largely occupied during the first stage of the fit out project. Timescales were then tightened once COVID-19 hit the UK, but our delivery team worked quickly to overcome the associated health and safety challenges, safely and effectively.

What the
client had
to say

“We are delighted with the quality that Paramount have provided in the refurbishment of our offices in Cardiff Bay. There is no doubt that the new space is a major factor in our staff returning to the office in large numbers”
